Hello, I am an ESL tutor. I have been teaching ESL for 17 years. I began my teaching career in the city of Buffalo. Then, I took a different ESL teaching position in a suburban district for nine years. Due to a changing population, and my desire to work full time , I returned back into the city of Buffalo. It has been a wonderful teaching journey, and I am pleased to have been given this opportunity of teaching such wonderful students during my teaching career.
I have experience of working with students in grades Kindergarten through Grade 12. In addition, I have a lot of experience of working with students from a variety of different cultures.
I work with students who are either a beginning ESL student throughout their advanced stages of learning English. I feel I am very successful in helping the students gain a strong command of the English language. I focus my teaching on all four areas of language development ; including listening, speaking, reading and writing. In addition, my instruction addresses the Common Core Learning Standards so I can prepare students to be successful students in their regular classroom.
Anyone who feels they would like to improve their English and reading skills, contact me so we can discuss your situation.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a New York State certification in teaching Kindergarten through Grade 6. I have taught ESL for 14 years in an elementary school. I have a lot of experience in all the subject areas in each of the grade levels.
I work with students in grades K - 12 to teach and or improve their English skills. I am familiar with the NYS standards of Language Arts in both the Elementary and Middle School grades.
I am certified in teaching ESL in grades K-12. However, I am able to teach young adults and adults English too.
I am interested in teaching Reading to Elementary Students. I have experience using the Orton Gillingham model of teaching reading . This highly emphasizes phonics in the approach. Also, I am able to use a variety of scaffolding techniques and vocabulary enrichment exercises to help my reading instruction. I read mostly nonfiction stories with students in order to keep up with the Common Core standards in the classroom. We incorporate the fiction stories into the nonfiction units of study.
