I am available to tutor your child in grades K-12 and even some college level courses. I have a Master's in Reading and permanent NY certification in Reading with over 20 years of classroom experience. I am able to help strengthen your child's reading comprehension, letter-sound recognition, sight word and vocabulary, reading fluency and writing skills. I have tutored students on essay writing requirements for NYS Regents Exams. Since the Regents Exams are focused on reading comprehension along with factual retention I can help students with the Global Studies, U.S. History and English Language Arts Regents exams. I have experience with the reading and essay components of all of these exams.
I have solid experience with the reading and writing sections of the SAT and ACT and have tutored students to strengthen their reading comprehension and refresh their vocabulary,grammar, editing and essay writing skills as well as strategies involving time management while taking the SAT and ACT. My son hates to write, my son doesn't write, asking my son to write is like offering a field splenectomy with a rusty spoon.

I have worked with special needs students in my classroom my entire career. I am familiar with IEP requirements and respond accordingly. As an undergraduate and graduate student I took and passed special education classes as required courses for my Bachelors and Masters degrees. I have received staff development training throughout my career pertaining to special needs students including those with ADD/ADHD and autism.
I have permanent New York State Certification as a Reading Teacher K-12. I have worked as a remedial reading teacher in grades 4 - 12. I can assist students in strengthening reading skills at the elementary level so that they can read for meaning and read to learn from content area subjects including social studies, science and math.
I have worked with English as a Second Language students throughout my career as a middle and high school teacher and now as a part time college instructor. I have tutored students to prepare for the TOEFL test, also.
As a certified teacher, I have taught elementary students cursive handwriting. I personally have exceptional cursive handwriting that I use to model for my students. There are practice materials I will purchase to use with students I am teaching cursive handwriting.
As a health education teacher for 20 years I have taught nutrition units in middle school and high school health courses.
I have worked with 4th-6th grade students in strengthening their phonics decoding skills.
I am qualified to tutor public speaking for a number of reasons. As an experienced teacher and school administrator I have engaged in public speaking my entire career. I have taken the required college freshman speech course and passed it and delivered oral presentations for most of my college professors as an undergraduate as well as graduate student. As a former school administrator I have delivered staff development training to my staff on classroom management, use of rubrics,critical thinking, research based literacy strategies for content area lessons, and Ruby Payne's insights on teaching children from poverty. I have given workshop presentations at professional state conferences on the topics of writing performance based assessments and on lessons I created for a high school health education AIDS Unit. I have presented to Boards of Education that I have worked for. As a high school teacher I have coached my students as they prepared for and delivered oral presentation requirements for my health classes. Presently I teach College Reading as an adjunct professor and continue to hone my public speaking skills.
I am a part time reading teacher at NCCC and substitute teacher. I have taught students to be stronger readers throughout my career.
I have tutored Regents subjects, including U.S.History and English, while I was an AIS Reading/Writing Teacher at Wellsville High School for 13 years. I also tutored these Regents exam courses while working as a tutor for Huntington Learning Center for 3 years. I know the content of these courses and the expectations of these exams. I know how to prepare students for both the content and the required essays.
I am qualified to tutor sociology because as a college reading instructor at Niagara County Community College I have worked in the capacity of college tutor in the college's Academic Achievement Center and have tutored students in Sociology. I am familiar and understand Sociology textbook material and other readings assigned. I have assisted students with their test prep for Sociology midterms and finals using their textbook, lecture notes, instructor handouts and graded quizzes.
Speech is the closest topic I could find for public speaking. I have fine-tuned public speaking skills courtesy of 20+ years as a teacher. I have also presented staff development workshops to teachers I have worked with and presented at NYS health conferences. I am extremely qualified to help someone become a public speaker.
As a teacher I have developed and taught study skills units. While at Niagara County Community College as a part time reading instructor I worked in the Academic Achievement Center meeting with struggling students on numerous study skill strategies ranging from proper note-taking, test prep, time management, how to study from notes, what to study and test prep.
