Hi! I'm Nikita! I am a medical student at SUNY Downstate Medical School in NY. I graduated with honors from Johns Hopkins University. In my gap year, I worked in educational fellowship program in rural Alabama, teaching 2nd graders in under-resourced school districts the basics of reading and math.
Throughout college and in the fellowship, I've been given the opportunity to see how education can play a pivotal role in the lives of not only the students themselves but also the community around them. A good teacher, in turn, can change the student's perspective on the material and allow them to truly realize their own inner potential. This is my approach to tutoring. The student takes the reins, and my job is to guide them in the right direction. I always try to put the material into perspective, drawing examples to the real world and emphasizing the application of the content rather than rote memorization. As such, much of the class will be structured around developing strategies for tackling questions and putting theory into use. Focusing on the student's role in their own education, I am very flexible in changing my tutoring approach to meet the needs of the individual students.
Previously, I've tutored students studying for AP Chemistry and precalculus. I've also helped students in essay writing with a particular emphasis in preparing common app and supplemental essays while applying for college. Furthermore, I've taken and excelled in a variety of college level science classes, such as Biology, Biochemistry, and Physics. I've also taken the MCAT and scored in the 98th percentile. As a recent gradate, I am familiar with the student lifestyle and can teach towards various standardized curriculums.
Especially under current virtual conditions, I hope to be a resource for students and bridge any gaps that they might have from class. I welcome all feedback and am happy to structure the lessons accordingly. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
