Hello!
I am a certified New York State Social Studies and EdTPA Educator, and I have about two years experience tutoring (EdTPA applicants please scroll to the end)*. My favorite thing about tutoring is that I can work with smaller groups of people or individuals which allows me to restructure my teaching based off of the individual(s) needs.
My passion is in studying diverse narratives, and sharing that desire with others. I come from a writing intensive background, so I also encourage everyone around me to write (academically or for fun).

New York State is required to adhere to Common Core curriculum so throughout my graduate program, and my teaching experience, I was required to create lesson plans that coincided with Common Core.

If you are interested in building yourself up academically, or even refining your reading and writing skills I will be more than happy to help. I am an academic, but I am also very flexible in my teaching methods. I believe there are multiple ways to come to an understanding of a topic, and I am comfortable teaching in both traditional, and non-traditional ways.

*EdTPA
I have successfully passed the Social Studies EdTPA for grades 7-12. I am only certified for that particular application.

However, the EdTPA is all about close reading, and supporting your teaching style via your writing , videos and assessments. If you feel overwhelmed by the process or would prefer to have a second pair of eyes go over everything I will be more than happy to assist you. I have been trained in research and writing, so editing documents is second nature for me.

I know the EdTPA can be a completely frustrating process, but you can succeed as long as you thoroughly go through each part.

College Counseling

Having a year of traditional in school teaching experience I established bonds with my students supporting them in areas ranging from academic advancement to post high school development. My job as an educator did not stop once I left the school building, but I maintained communications with prior students ensuring that they were up to date on things such as their financial applications (FASFA, PELL Scholarships, etc.) and degree requirements. This help also transfers over to finding different vocational schools if the student may not be interested in a four year college.

Regents

I am familiar with both the new and old form of the New York State Regents. During my year of in school teaching I taught a Regents review course for students ranging from their Sophomore to Senior years. All students were prepared using New York State practice questions as well as any information gathered from professional developments since the New York State Regents is going through a transitional phase.

Great Tutor

I really enjoyed working with Damaris, I never encounter a tutor as patient and caring as her. She Edited many of my papers and gave many tips to help me with my writing. She is a very devoted tutor and comprehensive. We worked on two papers together, and I received an A on both.

Knowledgable and patient tutor!

Damaris helped me edit my edtpas for my teaching credential. She made me feel so much better about the process and really helped me advance my writing in a short amount of time. I am so appreciative!
