Hello, I am a recent graduate from Washington University in St. Louis on the pre-medical track. I have a Bachelors of Science in Neuroscience with a minor in Biology. Throughout my 16 years of education, I came to realize the importance of quality teaching in a classroom. The subjects and classes that I came to enjoy were often taught by teachers and professors who were not only engaging but made the class enjoyable. While students are often only taught to memorize and regurgitate information, teachers who were engaging often taught us to think critically. They also made sure that each and every student understood the concept thoroughly, explaining through various types of examples and engaging in discussions with those who had questions. I base my teachings through these experience, doing my best to encourage my students to think on their own. By introducing topics in a way that is easy to understand at first and building skills and knowledge, students are able to start critically thinking with a solid foundation of basics. Plenty of practice through example questions are then used to reinforce the skills they just learned!
I have been a tutor ever since middle school, first learning to tutor my younger sister who's 6 years younger than me. From there, I built up my skills through various volunteer programs in high school, and got my first job as a home tutor in junior year of high school. I taught my two students - one in 7th, one in 9th - on different school subjects and helped prep for the PSAT. Throughout my time in college, I continued to volunteer at both middle and high schools. I also have experience as a Teaching Assistant (TA) for an introductory Biology class as well as a Cognitive Neuroscience class my senior year.
I hope to help students learn as much as possible, working around my methods and adjusting to fit the needs of the student. Ultimately, I hope to not only teach students about the materials they need help on, but also help them develop study skills that will be helpful for the futu
