Bio

I have a BA in Mathematics and Philosophy from Baruch College (CUNY). For two years now, I have taught Algebra I and II in a private school, where I have had great success getting high school students who say they 'hate math' to excel in class and on their Regents exams. (Math is doable if you do it right!)

I have a BA in Mathematics and Philosophy from Baruch College (CUNY). For two years now, I have taught Algebra I and II in a private school, where I have had great success getting high school students who say they 'hate math' to excel in class and on their Regents exams. (Math is doable if you do it right!)

Outside of the formal classroom setting, I have helped close to 100 students (in small groups or one-on-one) achieve high scores on their standardized exams: SHSAT, TACHS, SAT's, and particularly the NYS Regents (including: Algebra I/II, Geometry, Earth Science, Biology, English, American History, Global History).

My students excel on their exams because I use our time together strategically. One frustrated student I worked with had given up and was ready to drop out of high school. He decided to stay after I helped him pass and do well on the Algebra I Regents in only 6 sessions. My approach is simple and effective:
1) I prioritize topics based on how important they are for the actual exam.
2) Sessions are comprised of an overview of the content together with real exam questions organized by topic.
3) I make sure students have a clear understanding of how the grade curve works, which topics are most prominently featured on the exam, etc.
4) For math exams, I like to work with students on their graphing calculator skills -- an invaluable tool for success!

Easy-going manner but very targeted instruction.

Excellent first session with clear goals. My daughter found Nick interesting but very clear in his review and instruction. He arrived with a game plan for the session and work in between.

SUPER-KNOWLEDGEABLE, PATIENT, DOWN-TO-EARTH, ON-POINT

I've had a bunch of tutors before but I've never had anyone as knowledgeable as Nick. I needed a quick review of American History and he guided me through the main concepts and details I needed to know. Then he taught me how to write an essay for the American History Regents exam. Since he said he was a math teacher, I randomly asked if he could help me with a trig problem at the end of the session and he said 'sure' and helped me with that too. Really impressed by how much he knows and such a fun guy to work with (great sense of humor btw). I think I learn more in a session with Nick than in 10 months of school. Recommend!
