Born in the former Soviet Union and having moved to US, I am fully bilingual and have taught both ESL and Russian in High School and a community college. I have a Master's degree from Adelphi University. My students are always actively involved in the process of learning, and I see my role as a facilitator. I believe that learning should always be fun, therefore I teach through any media students are most comfortable with, and in any settings. I have taught a complex grammar topic while hiking Breakneck Ridge in Hudson Highlands once, and another time - literature appreciation in High Sierra mountains. I use music and student's favorite lyrics as well as films to teach languages.
Having learned English as a foreign student myself, I believe I have insights of Grammar, articulation and common mistakes students make in writing rarely found even among my colleagues. When I speak languages to beginners, I make sure they understand every word that comes out of my mouth and have been complemented on the skill.
Russian is my native language that we speak at home. I have taught Russian and Russian literature to students of all proficiency levels including beginners. I listen to what my students want to learn and plan accordingly.
You will learn fast and in a fun way! Interested in a combination of a walk in a park or a hike while learning? Prefer a quiet location such as a cafe, Barnes and Noble, or a library? No problem! A lesson is even possible to schedule while eating and/or making food!
