About Patrick

As a former architecture student, I remember what it was like to feel overwhelmed learning so many different things at once. Without much in the way of help when it came to software, I had to learn them all on my own. After 10+ years of working with these programs, it's now my pleasure to make the experience of learning them easier for anyone with the desire.

I've taught Rhino, Grasshopper, VRay, Keyshot, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign - both in classroom and one-on-one settings - for the last 5 years. My own personal and professional work makes use of these tools on a daily basis, so I'm always kept up-to-date on the latest tools and techniques with each software release.

My goal is to help students learn to use software as a problem-solving tool so that when you encounter a difficult design challenge, you'll be confident enough to proceed and solve it with the skills we've developed together.

Digital production is at the core of my interests and professional career. I've needed to stay on top of new trends in software and hardware, constantly teaching myself new programs and workflows as necessary.

I've been working with Photoshop actively for more than 11 years now for educational, personal, and professional use making everything from abstract art, to architectural renderings, to processing and touch-ups for professional product photography.

Please contact me with any questions that you might have. I also have experience with other software packages not listed here. Let me know if you have specific needs, and I'll see if we can work something out. Thanks, and I look forward to speaking with you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Illustrator

I've used Adobe Illustrator for the past 10+ years as a student, professional, and a teacher to create everything from company logos to assembly diagrams for Hollywood special effects and costumes.

Adobe InDesign

I've used InDesign for the last 8 years to assemble many projects both for myself and others. I've created personal portfolio/book projects to document my own work, created layout for small press publications such as No, Dear Magazine and Small Anchor Press, and taught these skills to students in workshops and curriculum at New York City College of Technology. I'm happy to summit sample documentation of work completed in InDesign to speak to these skills, if necessary.

Adobe Photoshop

I've used Photoshop for 10+ years, first as a student, then as a professional for both personal and client projects in applications ranging from photo touch-up and enhancement to compositing and matte painting. In addition, I've taught these skills to students as a teacher and as a software tutor / workshop leader since 2010.

AutoCAD

As a former architecture student and now an artist, designer, and fabricator, AutoCAD has been the standard program by which to make construction drawings, both for my own work and at the offices and studios where I've worked.

In addition, I've done previous personal tutoring, led student workshops, and taught courses teaching CAD skills at the university level. If helpful, I can submit examples of CAD work I've done in the past.

Autodesk Maya

I've taught Maya, specifically its polygon modeling, nDynamics, animation, and rendering packages, in private tutoring as well as for the New Skins Workshop with fashion designer and 3d printing expert Francis Bitonti. I've used Maya in both my personal and professional work to create animated artwork, and to design objects from jewelry to watercraft. I'm happy to supply a portfolio of work created using Maya or to provide links to example animations, if necessary.

Sketchup

As an architecture student, working professional, and as an educator, I've worked with SketchUp since 2005. This range of experiences have given me the opportunity to explore in-depth into all the program's features and understand how the software is used across industries. I've used it primarily for my own furniture and architectural design and used it to produce finished drawings and renderings for presentations.

Honest approach

Was a straightforward, honest and detailed training session. Left with specific points and a clear understanding of their process. Started with basics, in depth to be continued in our next session.
