About Seema

Bio

I have enjoyed tutoring since high school, helping classmates and other students in our common area study centers. In college, I continued as a Graduate Assistant in our campus' tutoring program, working with athletes, international students, students with learning disabilities and students who just needed help organizing their work and focusing. Above all, I like to give my students methods to learn that they can use whenever they need, so that they can tackle any subject at any time.

I specialize in teaching English to individuals who are learning English as a second language, in Psychology at any level, in Common Core subjects (up to the 6th grade) and in individuals who homeschool.

My career has focused on Psychology, and I work with individuals with special needs. This line of work has built on my teaching skills, and has forced me to be more creative with my approach to teaching. I like to focus on the individual and develop plans that are unique to the student. Since we do not all learn in the same way and at the same rate, I like to be imaginative in the way I teach a subject. I believe that we learn better when we relate real-life examples to our work as this puts the subject matter into perspective, and when we work together as friends. I do not believe in pressuring or overwhelming a student, as small steps are steady and crucial for a thorough understanding.

I love learning new words and their definitions, and using mnemonic devices to never forget what I wanted to memorize. I hope to help you do the same!

I have had ample experience working with younger children and individuals with special needs. I find that being patient, innovative and organized is helpful in simplifying the subject matter and providing the student with a better grasp on it.

I shall be happy to schedule times to work from 9am onwards, almost any day of the week.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you do your best!

I have worked in the public elementary school system, mainly with students in Kindergarten to the 6th grade. I have worked in the regular classrooms and also with individuals with special needs in the same age group. I like to ensure that when working with students of this age, I allow them to participate, ask as many questions as necessary and practice the material in methods that are customized to complement their individuality.

With a MA in Psychology, I have worked with students of all ages and all abilities. I have had ample experience working with school age children and helping them build their confidence with their academics. Whether working with college students in my campus' H.E.L.P. (Higher Education Learning Program) or with individuals with learning disabilities, developing individualized study habits is a key part of my experience in tutoring. I like to learn about the individual and their life, and together create a schedule and habits that work for them. I find that when students are allowed to take control (with my strategic direction), they are more likely to stick to their plan.
