Hamilton College (Creative Writing)
New York University, Center for Publishing (Graduate Coursework)
Hello! I am Andrew, a 22-year-old who recently moved to Brooklyn Heights, and is looking for opportunities to help children improve their grades and learning skills. I graduated cum laude from Hamilton College with honors in creative writing and a minor in theatre. While at Hamilton, I volunteered as an editor for the school newspaper and the literary magazine, and served as the president of the Campus Activities Board.
Prior to that, I graduated Simsbury High School in my hometown of Simsbury, Connecticut where I took several honors and AP courses. Throughout my high school years, I gained a lot of experience with children, working as a day camp counselor for first graders and a Sunday School teacher and tutor for children of all ages. I am particularly passionate about tutoring young, elementary age children with whom I feel a special connection. This summer, I completed NYU's Summer Publishing Institute and I am currently working in the Special Markets department at HarperCollins Publishers. I would be thrilled for the opportunity to help children learn better and become the kind of students they wish to be!
With my experience copyediting and workshopping writing samples both academically and extracurricularly, I have become proficient in spelling, grammar, and vocabulary, as well as more advanced lessons in syntax and sentence structure. I am versed in both analytical writing practices, such as term papers or book reports, as well as creative writing assignments, like my own honors college thesis, for which I wrote a 100-page collection of short stories. I am an avid reader myself, and working at HarperCollins has enhanced my knowledge of both classic and modern literature.
I am available to tutor weeknights anytime after 6pm, as well as most weekends. Feel free to contact me. I am happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have! Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

As a current employee at HarperCollins Publishers and former creative writing major at Hamilton College, I have become highly versed in literature and text analysis. I have read a wide range of classic and contemporary books and written numerous academic papers as well. I have also worked specifically with kindergarteners and first graders as a day camp counselor and Sunday school teacher, where I helped students read and write.
