In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Having lived and traveled extensively in the USA, Europe, and south east Asia, I have had the great fortune of being exposed to some of the most fantastic cuisines of the world. As a language teacher, I regularly bring my knowledge to the class and have lead cooking workshops on recipes such as Spanish potato-egg omelettes (tortilla) and gazpacho. I cook regularly at home and enjoy trying more challenging recipes from south east Asia. Teaching cooking is one of the best ways for students to understand another culture.
I am a lifelong, passionate drawer. I received top grades in Drawing and Art in high school, won blue and gold ribbons for my work in the Boston Globe Student Art Awards, and had my work exhibited in Faneuil Hall in Boston. Using a number of techniques as outlined in the book "Drawing on The Right Side of The Brain" I teach my students not just how to "look" but also how to "see."
