About Mark

I've been helping students learn math for years. I began with helping friends in math while in middle school and high school; and began to tutor while I was in 10th grade. I found tutoring to be very rewarding and decided that I wanted to be teaching for the rest of my life. Nothing satisfies me more than seeing students succeed in their classes.

I have tutored subjects starting from fractions and arithmetic all the way out to topics such as calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra. Having tutored for almost 15 years I have learned to work with many different kinds of students with different ways of learning and different personalities. I work on understanding what helps a student understand the subject and helping them build confidence in difficult topics.

I have a BS in Pure Mathematics and had a 4.0 in my subject. I have received near perfect scores in both the SAT and GRE math sections. I really love math and so I have spent a great deal of time exploring it to know it inside and out.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me. I look forward to helping students achieve excellence.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Composition (Music)

I have been composing since I was in 8th grade. I have taken music theory and form to strengthen my compositions. I am currently in a masters degree program in composition. I also play piano which helps greatly in composition. I have spent a lot of time helping people with their compositions to keep their own music as is but improved.

Differential Equations

I have a B.S in pure mathematics from CSULB. During my time there I took 2 semesters of ordinary differential equations, 1 semester of partial differential equations, and 1 semester of non-linear ordinary differential equations. I received As in all these classes.

Drums

I have studied for several years with a teacher who has a doctorate in percussion performance. She is the current principle percussionist in the LA opera. I have also been performing as a soloist in percussion recitals.

Ear Training

I have taken 4 semester of music theory with ear training. I received As in all four of my classes. I also took NYU's placement exam for ear training and passed it, needing to take no more classes in ear training.

Linear Algebra

I have a B.S in pure mathematics from CSULB. During my time there I took 2 semesters of linear algebra. I received As in all these classes.

Piano

I have been playing piano and giving solo piano recitals for 16 years. Have taken lessons from UCLA and USC piano performance graduates. I also give performance lectures on piano repertoire.

Sight Singing

I began sight singing in High School choir and have been practicing it for the last 18 years. Over my time in music theory I continued to develop sight singing in dictation lessons. I have been able to join choirs for a paid gig and sight sing through performances.

Voice (Music)

I have taken voice lessons with a teacher who has her doctorate of music in vocal performance and choral conducting. I have sung solo songs in public performances for years. I have also spent years singing in choirs.
