About Elizabeth

Being a graduate of Saint Joseph's College represents 700+ hours of hands-on work with students performing with a wide range of ability. We are given an opportunity to learn in various environments (one on one, parochial schools, private schools, public schools, practicum). Through these opportunities and experiences, I have developed a calm and friendly approach to helping and understanding a child. I received both my bachelor's degree and master's degree at Saint Joseph's College because they "over-prepare" you for the field. While earning my master's degree, I decided to accept a less stressful part-time position at a NAEYC accredited preschool. For this position, I was the head teacher of a 3-year old program. Accepting this position meant learning how to write lesson plans, speak to children, and communicate effectively with parents whom are experiencing school for the first time (most likely). I am so happy to have accepted that position because while I was receiving my Master's degree, I was able to gain two years of exceptional experience in the classroom and in the field.
After graduating, I taught as a Special Education reading/writing teacher for 2 years and will continue this position next year in a public school with the addition of becoming a SETSS teacher. I taught 4th grade for 2 years and 5th grade for one. I have never "tutored", but I have conducted small, in-school studying/HW help/skill help throughout the school year for my students who were struggling. Being a Special Education teacher means that I am required to assess students and develop plans in which they will succeed and flourish with their peers - this is my plan for your child.

Being an ex-shy public speaker, I will be able to help your child become more comfortable with being in front of their peers. ELA is my strength - being an ELA teacher for 2 year and from receiving my master' degree in Literacy and Cognition.

Being in public school and having administrators who expect CC alignment, I am familiar with the standards and the tests that are given for testing these standards. In addition, my IEP goals are typically aligned with such expectations.

I encourage you to contact me with ANY questions or concerns about my approach, my plans, and/or anything about me. I welcome any type of inquiry!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

Being a public school teacher requires that you are familiar with these standards. My lesson plans, bulletin boards, and IEPs all have to reflect an understanding of the standards.

Handwriting

When working in a preschool, I was trained in a program called Handwriting Without Tears that helps break all letters down into 4 simple shapes. Through this training, I have been able to use it with my elementary school students.

Reading

I have an MA in Literacy. I am in my 3rd year teaching special ed for 4th grade in public school. I am also teaching SETSS this year.
