About Aniela

I have had a passion for film my entire life, leading to me collecting a number of old cameras, learn about film history, and about how to operate and repair cameras in many different mediums. I have a collection of 8mm, Super8mm,16mm and 35mm film prints that I sometimes lend to events that project found-footage for public viewing. While at SVA, I've learned about the proper ways to tell a story through film and digital video, including all of the levels of pre- and post- production elements that go into it, and how to use aesthetics to help convey your vision. The various freelance positions I've held have helped round out my experience since those jobs have been mostly in the art department, helping me blend my love of painting and sculpture into the film/video production world.

Music has always been a part of my life, and I strongly believe that learning music can help with the providing confidence and intelligence in other areas. The flute has always been my favorite instrument, even while learning and playing instruments such as the guitar, piano, and violin. I have experience with college-level music theory classes, and experience playing the flute in all different musical styles in recordings and live performances. I've taught different workshops for music and film production at after school centers in Brooklyn and Manhattan, and have helped adults explore their creativity while gaining new hobbies. My motivation for tutoring in film, art, and music is to help others use their talents to create something that they are proud of and feel confident about.

I have a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in Cinematography, while also studying sculpture and painting. I've worked on various independent productions in the camera department as well as the art department. I am a painter and community arts advocate with Arts in Bushwick and I have worked professionally in window design for 5th Avenue department stores, and prop styling on editorial photo shoots. I've had my personal paintings and sculptures in various art shows and publications both in New York City and other locations.

I've been playing the flute since 6th grade, and was involved in county and state band (both marching and concert) competitions. I took music theory in college and have played the flute in multiple rock bands. I have been involved with the Metropolitan Music Community, and I have been hired to play classical flute for different events.

I look forward to hearing from you and to help you express yourself through art, film, or music (or all three).

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have a BFA in Film and Video with a focus in Cinematography from the School of Visual Arts (Class of 2011). I've worked on various independent features and series shoots in NY and NJ, working in the electrical department, camera department, and art department. In addition to professional experience, I have also taught one on one lessons to adults in film editing programs and film history, and have worked with kids in workshop settings to create a short film from start to finish. Majoring in Cinematography has allowed me to learn about all types of film stock for both motion pictures and still photography and I still use film in my own independent artwork projects.

I have been playing the flute since elementary school, and have been in state and county bands (audition based) throughout all of high school. More recently, I've played with different community orchestras in Brooklyn that were also audition based through the Metropolitan Music Community. While I love playing classical music and I have a firm understanding of music theory, I also love playing the flute in other capacities, such as being in rock bands and jazz groups. I would love to teach students who love the flute how versatile this instrument can be and give them confidence to express themselves.

I've been painting all of my life. I took various painting courses both independently and at the School of Visual Arts. I have worked professionally doing window design and installation at the corporate level for Lord and Taylor, as well as other production houses around New York City. I've had to successfully paint and design props and paintings for both the actual windows and the style boards. In addition to my professional work, I am very involved in the Arts in Bushwick organization and know many local artists in Bushwick, while having my own painting studio in the neighborhood as well.

Video Production

I have a BFA in Film and Video from SVA with a focus in Cinematography. I've worked professionally on different crews, including web series production, indie features, and art films for installation work. Video Production is an important skill that can be used as a tool for self-expression. I would love to be able to teach students the tricks that I have learned to make sure the audience understands their message, and have them complete a project that they are proud of.
