About Mike

I've been playing guitar for 10+ years now. I first picked up the instrument after being inspired by the late Darrell Abbot of groove-metal icons "Pantera", and my love for the instrument has only grown tenfold since then. I've performed with several acts professionally and have studied the instrument in-and-out for thousands of hours now, and continue to do so to this very day.

My specialties are in metal and many of it's sub-genres, but I have trained and learned a variety of other techniques and songs from genres such as:

-Blues
-Jazz
-Flamenco (fingerstyle)
-Classic Rock/Rock & Roll

...and many more.

I first decided to teach guitar after having some fun at-home lessons with my little brother. I loved the idea of spending time with him further and gave it a shot, only to realize the challenge of teaching and passing on what you know to others is something I truly enjoy. From there I posted up fliers and advertised online, and have had the chance to work with many amazing students from the ages of 10-80.

I have knowledge of basic, intermediate, and advanced techniques for lead and rhythm guitar, as well as extensive knowledge in music theory. I am also in the midst of applying for the winter 2016 semester for Berklee College of Music, and am excited at the prospect of furthering my skills to make the learning experience for my students just that much better.

I organize my lessons based on what the student knows, what they want to learn, and how they progress. From there I form my own curriculum for them based on what they desire and what I think will work best. Every student is different and learns at a different rate, so understanding them and figuring out what works best is a vital part to teaching in general, especially in the case of music and guitar.

I am available at the hours of 9am-9pm all week (Sunday-Saturday). My base rate is $35/hour in person, and $20/hour online. Feel free to contact me with any questions pertaining to that or anything else of concern for you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
