About Max

Max G. grew up in Rochester, New York under the musical tutelage of Jeff Lewis, Steve Curry, and Eastman School of Music professor Rich Thompson. His passion for drums and jazz was quickly noticed as a teenager when he was awarded the top All County Drum Chair as well as his high school's Louis Armstrong Award for Jazz Performance. Upon moving to New York City he studied jazz performance at both New York University and The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, where he was awarded his Bachelor of Fine Arts.

Since graduating from the music conservatory, he has made a living as a musician and a teacher. He tours regularly, both nationally and internationally; appearing regularly in some of NYC's top jazz and popular music venues. Max's musical projects have received critical acclaim in The New York Times, Downbeat Magazine, and The New York Jazz Review.

Teaching has become a passion equal to performance. Over the past 16 years, in addition to teaching many private students at their homes and in his music studio, he has taught at the Long Island Drum Center, The Music School of Westchester, Montclair State College and and CUNY's Harmony Program. Additionally, he has presented clinics for high schools and colleges around the country.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
