University of Wisconsin at Madison (English)
I have a degree in English from University of Wisconsin at Madison. I used to work in magazine publishing, and I'm now switching to teaching. In a few weeks, I'll have my certificate to teach ESL from The New School. As part of my training, I've been teaching students from all over the world, which has been very exciting and interesting. I'm also the mother of a 16-year-old who attends one of NYC's specialized high schools. My policy when he was little was to read to him as much as possible, and expose him to as many books as I could.
I can tutor you in any aspect of English or ESL that you need help with, whether it be grammar, writing, reading, listening, or a combination of all of them. I can also help native speakers of all ages with their writing, by guiding them to an understanding that clear writing requires clear thinking.
Whether you are struggling with a particular piece of writing, need general ESL tutoring, or help with a book that you're reading for English class, get in touch and I'll be happy to help! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
