About Andy

Hi there, my name is Andy and my specialties are in mathematics subjects as well as test prep. Some of my specialty areas are, but not limited to: Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Geometry, Calculus I/II/III, and more. I am also effective in tutoring for standardized tests such as: SSAT/ISEE, SAT/ACT, GRE, as well as Actuarial Exams.

In undergrad studies I majored in Mathematics and Economics with a Minor in Statistics. For graduate school, I did an Actuarial Science program. I have been a tutor for over 6 years and have a brevity of knowledge that makes me versatile for many subject areas, even specialty topics. From working with students ranging from elementary school up until graduate school, I have been able to develop patience while dealing with students, pinpoint areas of weaknesses in my students, and understanding my students.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Actuarial Science

I am very qualified to tutor in Actuarial Science. I received a master's degree from Columbia in Actuarial Science, the top program in the country. I have worked as an actuary at 3 different companies. I have also passed 3 exams as well with good scores.

Calculus

In the subject of Calculus I have done a great job of helping students visualize different models and questions which make it easier to understand concepts. With an undergrad and grad education in math, this has been the basis of most of my coursework giving me a strong advantage and exposure.

Differential Equations

I am qualified to tutor in this subject due to my extensive background in Differential Equations. It was a key area in my undergraduate math courses as well as my graduate math courses. By working as a tutor in this field, I've helped students increase in this subject by at least 2 letter grades and have made the course work easy for them to handle.

Econometrics

Econometrics was a very big area in my undergraduate studies as an Economics major. I have written a thesis using key econometric principles that have given me an even greater understanding of the subject area. I can help students not only from a computational standpoint but from a theoretical level as well.

GRE

For GRE I have been tutoring in this test for a year. I have experience taking the exam as well as helping students prepare for it, with my methods being very effective and efficient.

SAT Math

I am qualified to tutor in SAT Math mainly because I am very strong in all areas of mathematics with SAT math encompassing a variety of different math topics in which I am strong in.

SSAT

I am qualified to be a SSAT tutor due to my background in the area. I have had results in the past year of increasing students percentiles by at least 20 percentage points. With many students falling in the 90th percentile and up.

Statistics

I have obtained my Master’s degree in Actuarial Science from Columbia University (Actuarial Science – Topmost program in USA). The course is primarily based on statistics that ranged from theoretical to applied statistics. I help my students to understand the subject in their own way which they feel as comfortable.
