Athens Law School, GR / Hunter College, NY (Law, Fine art, Theater)
I was born and raised in Greece. I studied Law at the National University of Athens and when I moved in NY I enrolled in Hunter College to study Fine Arts and Theater. I went to a Greek-French primary and high school in Athens where I learned French and obtained all the diplomas needed to professionally teach French. Due to my exposure to the intensity of learning a foreign language for many years I have a deep understanding of how a foreign language can effectively and creatively be taught, and have been in touch with various methods of tutoring. Furthermore, during my 3 years of preparation to enter Law School, I realized my natural talent and passion towards languages and especially the Greek language. At the time I was vigorously studying Ancient Greek. I approached (and still do) grammar, syntax, the structure of language and etymology of words with analytical thought and with the joy of discovery.
I have been a dancer and I am now an artist. I have also studied theater at Hunter College. In my tutoring I incorporate all these different backgrounds in order to make language instruction a fun and creative process. I don't believe that language tutoring should be dry and boring, but it should make the student more curious and excited about the language. I love communicating with people. I am easy going while at the same time I do believe in hard work and discipline in order to achieve a goal. Our class will give emphasis to both the understanding of the language structure and rules, as well as to speech. Being a native speaker and having been raised in Greece I am extremely familiar with the Greek culture, and know Greek idioms and everyday expressions.
I love to work with both adults and children. I can accommodate my methods to suit each student's needs and interests. I respect students' personality, I pay attention to their individual needs and create the most appropriate environment for them to thrive. I was born and raised in Greece. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
