About Alicia

I am a Chilean journalist currently living in NYC, I am passionate about the Spanish language and the Arts (specially Theater). I have taught Spanish writing to middle schools and university students in Chile (University of Las Americas and Culinary Institute), as well as Art History and Theatre, that is my specialty. I've also worked in the editorial department of a major newspaper in Chile. Finally, in my role of corporate communication manager, I have led communications coaching sessions for various clients (enterprises). All in Spanish.

I studied communications at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and Theatre and Aesthetics at the University of California, San Diego and the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in NY, where I focused on the method technique. After all this years of preparation I happened to find all these fields very connected, since my proximity to the theater has opened my eyes to all the different ways that I can help students engage productively with Spanish language in all its forms.

I seek to provide professional and informal Spanish language assistance to my students, where communication and fun practice are the key to success! Having learnt the basics of other languages I totally understand the obstacles of learning a new language and the significance of practicing with native speakers in an encouraging environment. My idea is to make learning a fun experience, I invite you to work together in the acquisition of new knowledge. Looking forward to work with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Theatre

I studied Theatre at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and then as an abroad student at the University of California, San Diego . Finally I decided to focus on the method technique in the Two Year Conservatory Program at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in NY.

The theater has been part of my life since I was a teenager, first as a hobby and then as a path in life that has integrated harmoniously with my other areas of knowledge. Throughout my life I've been part of several professional ensembles, both in Chile and USA, and I have done some work in film as well.

For me the theater is one of the few activities that allow me to be fully present in the moment, making myself part of a creative pulse. Drama is a magical language which speaks before words and with gestures which develop before organized bodies.
