My passion for playing the saxophone originated from hearing my dad, who is also a saxophonist, practice around the house and perform with local big bands and concert bands. I began studying piano when I was eight, picked up the saxophone two years later, and have continued to devote most of my time to practicing and performing ever since. Although much of my musical ability is a result of thousands of hours of diligent practice, I would not be nearly as successful had I not studied with great teachers and been motivated by listening to masterful performances. I studied saxophone with Professor Shawn "Thunder" Wallace at the Ohio State University and Dr. Andrew Rathbun at Western Michigan University, jazz piano with Ed Simon, and flute and clarinet with several doctoral candidates at O.S.U. While attending W.M.U., I was a Graduate Assistant whose responsibilities included teaching applied saxophone lessons, directing rehearsals, teaching theory and ear-training, and performing in various faculty ensembles. I also taught flute and clarinet to middle-school students at Paramount Charter Academy in Kalamazoo, MI.
I am qualified to teach beginner, intermediate, or advanced saxophone students, beginning and intermediate clarinet and flute students, and beginning piano students. I also have a deep understanding of music theory, composition, and ear-training techniques. My specialization is in jazz and improvisation, but I also practice and study classical, as well as many other styles of music.
I have experience teaching students of all ages, whether they are just starting up, or have been at it for quite a while. It is always a priority for me to get to know my students and their goals, so that I can help them succeed to the best of my ability. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, I would be delighted to hear from you. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I began studying the clarinet as a secondary instrument in high school, and enrolled in clarinet lessons for four semesters at Ohio State University, which is where I received my Bachelor's degree in saxophone performance. While attaining my Master's degree at Western Michigan University, I performed clarinet in various professional settings, including a New Orleans band called the Kanola Jass Band. I also taught beginning clarinet students at Paramount Charter Academy in Kalamazoo, MI for two years. Shortly after completing my Master's degree of music performance, I worked for Royal Caribbean Cruises as a musician for six months, where I played clarinet as well as flute and saxophone for the "show band," whose responsibility was to provide backing music for numerous guest entertainers.

I have a Master's degree in music performance from Western Michigan University, and a Bachelor's degree in music performance from Ohio State University. I received top marks in all of my undergraduate music theory courses, and tutored undergraduate music theory students while I was a graduate assistant at W.M.U.
Piano is the first instrument I learned to play, and started taking lessons when I was 8 years old. Throughout college, I played piano in a number of settings, and received piano lessons from renowned pianist Edward Simon (performs notably with the S.F. Jazz Collective). Upon moving to New York last year, I have initiated a studio consisting of about fifteen students, including five piano students. I currently hold the position of Jazz Piano Instructor at a Center for the Arts.
I attained my Bachelor's degree in saxophone performance from Ohio State University in 2012, and my Master's degree in saxophone performance from Western Michigan University in 2014. While attending W.M.U., I held the position of Graduate Assistant, and some of my duties included teaching applied saxophone lessons, both in classical and jazz. I have taught students of various ages and ability levels, and have professional experience performing soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophone in a wide variety of musical styles. Most recently, I was lead alto saxophonist for the Radiance Show Band for Royal Caribbean Cruises in 2015.
