About Dan

Born and raised in Allentown, PA, I am excited to be living in New York City. Last spring, I graduated from Harvard with a cum laude degree in History and Literature. Tutoring is a pleasure for me, simply because I enjoy sharing my passions and making intellectual connections with other people. I also thrived on the assistance of a couple fantastic tutors and advisers at Harvard, and I want to make sure that other students can access the same valuable guidance that I received.

Since becoming a professional tutor earlier this year, I have already helped numerous middle and high school students reach their full potential in standardized testing, writing, and a range of other subjects. In addition to that, my tutoring experience includes college academic peer workshopping, special needs volunteering, and National Honor Society. Outside of teaching, my interests include writing, stand-up comedy, running, tennis, and rock and blues music. I also know more about The Beatles than any person has a right to.

As for some of the subjects I am best versed in:

Having scored very well on the SAT math section myself, I know what it takes for everyone to boost their scores on this critical section. I set myself apart from other math teachers with my ability to break down fundamental concepts and explain complicated problems in a simple way.

I am a serious advocate of improved writing and critical reading in the modern educational system. Beyond the obvious collegiate applications, strong verbal skills are among the most valuable that one can have in his or her intellectual arsenal. Today's society needs more people who are adept at clear communication, personal expression, and nuanced argumentation. My own writing portfolio includes a senior thesis, screenplays, short fiction, and countless blog posts.

American history is one of my greatest passions, as well as the central focus of my Harvard education. My college studies have endowed me with a strong grasp of research skills, the interpretation of primary and secondary sources, and original historical argument. I thrive on proving to students that history is not a matter of memorizing dates and names, but rather a complex, living continuum of human activity that has determined our way of life today.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

American history is one of my greatest passions, as well as the central focus of my Harvard education. My college studies have endowed me with a strong grasp of research skills, the interpretation of primary and secondary sources, and original historical argument. I thrive on proving to students that history is not a matter of memorizing dates and names, but rather a complex, living continuum of human activity that has determined our way of life today.

English

My Harvard education refined my lifelong passion for reading and writing with top-notch literary analysis skills. I aim to make my students not only well-read, but also able to understand and respond to the written word in a much more complex way. In the process, I help others achieve a mastery of the English language that will allow them to interpret and share ideas with depth and precision.

Geometry

I am well-versed in geometry and have extensive experience helping students understand and apply geometric concepts, both in high school classes and on the SAT.

SAT Math

Having scored very well on the SAT math section myself, I know what it takes for everyone to boost their scores on this critical section. I set myself apart from other math teachers with my ability to break down fundamental concepts and explain complicated problems in a simple way.

SAT Reading

The SAT Reading section is a source of anxiety for many students, but I have helped many figure out the key to boosting their scores. Despite many of its questions seeming similar to those in an English class, each and every one is objective. I can help you approach this portion with a winning strategy to quickly make sense of reading passages and better manage your time.

Writing

I am a serious advocate of improved writing and critical reading in the modern educational system. Beyond the obvious collegiate applications, strong verbal skills are among the most valuable that one can have in his or her intellectual arsenal. Today's society needs more people who are adept at clear communication, personal expression, and nuanced argumentation.
