About Andrew

I have a Master's in Education from Teachers College Columbia University. I'm a technical writer and project manager in the financial sector. For five years, I was a high school English and humanities teacher in the NYC public schools, which gives me a sharp edge when it comes to literature, history and writing-related tasks. I specialize in writing support: assistance with outlining and researching, proofreading, copyediting, and raw encouragement.

As skilled as you need your tutor to be, you also need your tutor to be humane and caring. I have had some practice at that.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I was a small group leader at my church for two years, and effectively designed and led a series of studies of various passages from and books of the Bible in that capacity. I've been reading and studying theology and scholarship relating to the Bible for over ten years.

Writing

I've taught middle school and high school language arts, in New York City and in Los Angeles. I've worked as a technical writer in the financial sector and as a freelance copyeditor and proofreader.
