Maryland Institute College of Art (Graphic Design)
Hello! I am a graphic designer, illustrator, and photographer in Brooklyn, NY. I am originally from Maryland, and I've been working full-time as a multi-disciplinary artist in New York for over ten years. I am very passionate about my craft and I am always seeking new challenges, collaborators, materials, and ideas to help fuel my work. Since living in New York I have been fortunate enough to work for HBO, Fox, Under Armour, Peanut Butter & Co., Gojee, XO Group, and many other companies. I've taken on roles as a print designer, web designer (UX/UI), and full-time illustrator, all of which have overlapped in one form or another. I believe that it is important for all artists to explore different media to help balance their work and engage the mind in different ways.
As a tutor, I would like to share my accumulative technical experience as well as foster enthusiasm for the arts and all of the creative and intellectual satisfaction that creative activities can bring. Making art is completely integral to my daily life and I take great joy in that. I also have a lot of expertise to share about applying a student's skills to a professional atmosphere, and I can help prepare students showcase their skills in ways that help them enter the career path that interests them most. By using my personal and professional experience I would like to help a younger generation enjoy a life in the arts.
Feel free to reach out to me so that we can come up with a plan that works best for you. I am very flexible and want to make sure that this experience is as productive as possible. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been drawing for as long as I can remember, my mother used to tape paper to my high-chair so that I could play around with crayons. I took honors art classes all throughout my elementary, middle, and high school education, as well as summer workshops. I have a BFA in illustration from the Maryland Institute College of Art where I studied compositional drawing, figure studies, landscape drawing, and color theory. I continue to visit the Spring Street Studio and the Society of Illustrators in Manhattan for figure drawing groups to enhance my skills and understanding of the human form. I am a compulsive doodler and am always seeking ways to improve and enhance my personal work through sketchbook exploration. Drawing is my biggest passion and I love having the opportunity to share that passion with students and help them discover ways to cultivate their own skills and styles on paper. I firmly believe that anyone can learn how to draw if they work hard enough to discover their own ways of communication and expression through drawing.
