I am currently a teaching fellow at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY, where I teach English composition and rhetoric. I am also currently working on my Ph.D. at the Graduate Center, CUNY; my dissertation focuses on reading and writing pedagogy for college students. I am passionate about education, and I have made teaching center of professional life, both in my research and my dedication to my classes.
I have also been teaching writing at the Cathedral School on the Upper East Side for over five years. At this school, I worked with students on essay writing, reading comprehension and literary criticism. I have tutored numerous students from the Cathedral school, working on subjects ranging from ERB preparation to admissions essays for select New York City high schools.
I feel particularly confident in my ability to help students write and revise their admissions essays for high schools and colleges. Students of mine have been accepted into Stuyvesant, Brooklyn Tech, and Horace Mann.
I favor a hands-on, practical, task-orientated approach to teaching writing. I favor a no-nonsense vocabulary that helps students who feel that they're "just no good" at writing approach the composition process with confidence and effective strategies.
All together, I have extensive experience teaching writing at the college, high school, and middle school level. Also, as a current Ph.D. student, I am engaged writer myself, constantly working out new approaches to the craft.

I have had great success with all my students, and I genuinely enjoy the practice of teaching. I truly believe that teaching is a collaborative activity, where the teacher and student work together to achieve a common goal. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
