About Justine

I am a multimedia artist who loves to teach. I received my BFA from Pratt Institute in Fashion Design with a minor in Art History, and received my Master's from the School of Visual Arts in Art Education. I've worked as a teaching artist for the Henry Street Settlement, the Williamsburg High School of Architecture & Design, I've tutored students who are undergraduates in college, student taught at two elementary schools, and I've interned with Free Arts NYC as a Project Coordinator and Mentor for ages 5-14.

My favorite mediums are pen and ink, screen-printing, sewing, plaster, and film. I can teach things such as basic pattern making and sewing for clothing, as well as drawing and painting skills for beginner or intermediate students. I have extensive art history knowledge and always love to share what I know.

I love to teach because it enriches a students life with new skills and builds confidence! I have a very positive outlook on life, and like to impart that to my students. Everyone is capable of doing what they put their mind to! Hard work pays off and I love being a part of the learning process. I'm great at pushing students to their best with patience and compassion. I have no trouble adapting to a students level of artistic ability but always love to help them reach new heights of excellence.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Getting a tutor is the first step to enhancing your life with wonderful skills that will carry you through your entire life!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drawing

I've studied drawing within the art department at Scottsdale Community College and Pratt Institute. I received a scholarship at both Pratt Institute and School of Visual arts for my skills as an artist. I can show students beginning techniques such as perspective and proportion all the way to advanced techniques such as realistic shading and observational still lives. I've been drawing for over 15 years and am very proficient with graphite, charcoal, and ink.

Needlework

I received my BFA from Pratt Institute in Fashion Design with a minor in Art History. The fashion department at Pratt requires many sewing, and patterning classes before a diploma is granted. I know many sewing and stitching techniques, as well as embroidery techniques. I have also studied Japanese embroidery techniques, and have hand-sewn many projects.

Painting

I've studied painting within the art department at Scottsdale Community College and Pratt Institute. I received a scholarship at both Pratt Institute and School of Visual arts for my skills as an artist. I can show students color mixing, texture techniques, etc. I've been painting for over 15 years and am very proficient with acrylic, and watercolor.

Sewing

I received my BFA from Pratt Institute in Fashion Design with a minor in Art History. The fashion department at Pratt requires many sewing and patterning classes before a diploma is granted. I was required to complete several collections, all of which were designed, patterned, and sewn by myself. It is very gratifying being able to create clothing, and teaching this skill is fantastic.
