About Rebekah

My experience is mostly in an arts background where I have worked in close collaboration with people across many media platforms. My job is all about language, and all about communication. I have devoted my life to conveying ideas, both big and small, to impact audiences around the world on stage and through the big and little screen.

Actors are like teachers in that they need a great deal of empathy and clarity in order to make a difference. Being raised bi-cultural in the United States, with parents who struggled with the English language, I learned exactly how important it is for people to respect each others learning processes.

I am fully fluent in Turkish but I am a native US speaker of English. I lived there as a child and I spent every summer there into my teenage years. I also edit and produce audiobooks and commercials; so, again, I am deeply devoted to effective communication and getting the message across in a nuanced and accurate way.

I've had a great time going back-and-forth between Turkey and the US, and I can help you understand some of the cultural differences that are unique and interesting to Americans. As a crossroads to the world, where east meets west, learning about the Republic of Turkey can sometimes feel addicting. It is a fascinating culture – actually, a compendium of many cultures built one atop the other. With its origins as a tribal language in the Ural Altaic region, Turkish can sometimes be very challenging for English speakers and Europeans alike. It is not even in the same part of the language pie as any other Indo-European language! I can help you get inside the language and understand it intuitively and conceptually.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
