About Marc

Hi. My name is Marc and I'm here to help students improve their understanding (and grades!) in Physics and Math. I have a Bachelor's of Science in Physics and a Master of Arts in Teaching both from Brown University. As part of my Masters degree I earned a Teaching Certification from the State of Rhode Island. As an undergraduate I tutored classmates taking introductory Physics, and spent my winter breaks tutoring High School students in New York in both AP and academic Physics.

My job as a tutor is to meet the needs and goals of the students and parents I work with. I help students get what they're looking for from each session by finding the right methods, from day-to-day homework help to long term skill building in Math and Physics.

When the sessions end, I think the most rewarding and meaningful progress is made when students continue to succeed on their own long after the tutoring sessions are over. As a musician and an athlete, I've borrowed ideas from performance psychology to create tutoring strategies which not only help students improve their scores, but teach them to be better learners, thinkers, and test takers, so that they can approach difficult new topics with ease.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

As a physics major in college, the mathematics that is taught in a class like Algebra 1 had to be second nature to me. I like to think of math as a language that scientists use to describe the universe.

When it comes to teaching math I like to help students build strong skills and conceptual knowledge "from the ground up" so that they're not just memorizing rules but really learning the material deeply.

Algebra 2

I truly enjoy teaching students math because we get to work up from the bare essentials to more interesting results and ideas. It's my hope that for students that either struggle with or dislike math (or both!) that once they no longer see the subject as just a collection of arbitrary rules but a system built from simple essential concepts they'll feel more confident in their math classes.

Calculus is a challenging subject which asks students to think about mathematics in a very different way. Having mastered single and multivariable calculus as a physics major in college, I feel confident that I can help students gain a deep understanding of the topic.

I have a Bachelors of Science in Physics from Brown University, a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Brown University and Rhode Island State Teaching Certification. Physics has been one of my biggest passions from a very young age. I took all of the Physics classes I could handle in high school and college, covering a range of topics from basic mechanics to advanced quantum physics. I love teaching and working with students to help them understand the essential ideas that help us understand the universe!

I studied Physics in college, where a deep understanding of essential precalculus concepts such as advanced trigonometry and properties of functions is a must. I love passing this knowledge on to students to help them develop the same deep understanding of mathematics.
