About Karin

I'm an academic/creative writing teacher and tutor with more than 10 years experience in youth arts and education. I currently teach creative writing, composition, and science writing to undergraduate students at The City College of New York. I'm also involved in the CCNY Poetry Outreach program, and I have worked as a Poet-in-the-Schools in New York, Washington, D.C., and Ohio. I've taught creative writing workshops at 826DC, a non-profit writing and tutoring center in Washington, D.C., and I really enjoy working with students of all ages. Recently, I taught conversational English online to students in Japan, and I'm as comfortable tutoring through video chat as I am face-to-face.

I love tutoring, because I believe each student deserves extra attention, no matter what his/her ability level or needs might be. Each student is unique, and tutoring provides them with an opportunity to apply their strengths and creativity to areas where they need extra help, or want to get ahead. I've found that the low-pressure tutoring environment is more comfortable than the classroom, and that can really go a long way in helping students focus on material, think critically, and retain the information they'll need to help them succeed.

I tutor ESL, English, Grammar, Literature, and Writing.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to introduce yourself and learn more about me. You'll find that I'm open-minded, friendly, and eager to help you achieve your goals. We can work together to find a schedule that works for you, online or elsewhere. I'm looking forward to it!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
