I have been teaching since 1998. I have worked as a second grade teacher and have spent over 10 years working with grades 5 -8. I enjoy making reading and language fun for my students. Over the past 2 years I have spent time working with adults volunteering at public and social agencies as an ESL tutor and as a literacy tutor. It has been my a pleasure helping adult readers learn to enjoy one of my favorite past times. Tutoring is a teacher's dream because it allows me to give my students the one and one attention they might not be receiving in direct classroom instruction.
I love the English language and vocabulary . I enjoy finding creative ways to connect the information for my learners. I have taught grammar, reading and writing in grade school for many years. I have completed in 3 weeks of intensive CELTA workshops and training and worked with students of all ages.
Spelling was one of my first loves as a child. I don't think I ever lost the spelling bee "bug". Phonics. spelling and vocabulary work hand in hand with writing, so it has been a great way to incorporate all my favorite subject areas. I have been involved over the years as a spelling bee coach for my elementary and middle school students.
I would love the opportunity to help you improve your reading, writing, or speaking skills. Feel free to contact me for tutoring sessions so that we can start our language journey together! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
