Cornell University, Ithaca, NY (Psychology)
Hey! I worked as a group leader in a local Brooklyn camp for the past two summers. I have experience working with children aged 5-15. As a part of my job, I had to organize group activities and lead the campers to each of their classes. I have a lot of experience as a tutor at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. In Ithaca, I tutor at Fall Creek Elementary School two times a week. I also tutor a seven year old in all of her subjects on weekends. I am a rising junior at Cornell University with a major in Psychology and a minor in English. Of course, I enjoy reading scientific journals, including the well known magazine, Psychology today. I enjoy reading all types of books. My favorite classics include Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier, To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, and Slaughterhouse-5 by Kurt Vonnegut. I love reading poetry, especially Tennyson, Blake, Coleridge, and other Romantic and Victorian poets. Reading and writing is a passion of mine, but math, in particular geometry, is a subject that I have always found enjoyable and fascinating. It is a unique part of mathematics because every answer you come up with can be proven in a very logical and systematic way. I believe geometry is important because it helps form a foundation formed from logic that can help a student in all areas of academia, especially philosophy, art, architecture and planning, design, and other areas of mathematics.
I love tutoring because I am not only helping someone learn something new, but also am improving my own knowledge. I have great people skills and I love to get to know the student. I know everyone has strengths and weaknesses, and I think it is important to continue to exercise your strengths, but also to improve your weaknesses. Perseverance is key and I want to be able to be a supportive part of your academic journey.
I took a class focusing on geometry in college and was in geometry honors in my high school. I also scored a 93 on my geometry regents exam.
I am an English minor. I also have an internship at Langton's International Agency in NYC. At the agency, I am continuously reading and editing. My job is to read the manuscript and come up with ideas that may help the writer get published. I scored a perfect 12 on my SAT essay. I have also had many pieces published including a short comical anecdote in the New York Times. I work for Rainy Day, a creative writing publication at Cornell, where I help edit our submissions.
My hours are pretty flexible and I am willing to work on weekends. I know there are finals and Regents coming up and I am ready to help! I also can help with the Italian language Regents. I am passionate about learning and promise to do the best I can to help any student! I am knowledgeable, experienced, and love to help people! Hey! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
