About Ben

Hi, my name is Ben S. I am an Associate Professor at the Berklee School of Music. I am a jazz guitarist in the broad sense of the word: blues, rock, and classical guitar are all part of my playing as well as be-bop. Guitarists, are you wanting to get beyond your limitations and get on a track where you can really progress? I have courses of study fretboard harmony, reading labs and chord studies that will get you into a whole ability level.

Pianists, if you are classically trained and would like to learn to play without having to only read the notes on the page, I can help you with this.

I also teach jazz improvisation on all instruments, and work with basic music production skills to help you learn harmony and songwriting.

There's plenty of guitar teachers out there. The reason to come to me is if you're looking to really work on some things to help you develop long term, no quick fixes here! I can assess where you're at and develop a course of study that you will be able to work on for several months.

Adult hobbyists and beginners are welcome too.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Composition (Music)

I teach a Contemporary Music Creation course at Wagner College. In this class we learn the basics of music production which we use to work on original music. My specialty is in helping students with their music...creating beats that line up with bass lines, song structure, harmony, and all of the elements of composition.

Guitar

I am an Associate Professor at the Berklee College of Music. I teach guitar classes and private lessons.

Music Production

I teach a Music Production course at Wagner College. Reason and Logic are the daw's I use. My specialty though is really on helping with your music...creating beats that line up with your bass lines, working on song structure and all of the elements of composition.

Piano

I am an Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music and Wagner College. I teach jazz, rock and blues, and how to accompany. If you are classical pianist who wants to learn to play without music I am the teacher for you!
