Originally from Springfield, MA, I graduated from Bennington College with a degree in Literature, but was able to study broadly within the liberal arts model, taking math, science, arts, social sciences. I was a substitute teacher for the Springfield Public Schools in MA for a year, and worked primarily with elementary and middle school aged students.
Currently, I am working toward my MFA in poetry at NYU. I just finished a teaching artist residency at PS110, where I taught 10 poetry lessons to a 5th grade. I've spent the last year tutoring elementary, middle, and high school students in Manhattan. I am familiar with the ELA and Math common core tests, as well as the SATS, and some of the specialized middle school tests for NY.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
