About Lauren

Hello, parents and students! Nice to meet you. I'm Lauren, and I am not your average tutor. When I work with students, I go above and beyond just teaching the material. I work with each student to create an individualized curriculum, track his/her progress and strengths/weaknesses, suggest the best materials, create a study schedule and timetable for testing and retesting, work on pacing and test strategy, and so much more. I commit to tutoring full-time, only work with a select number of students at once, and am available round the clock to provide the best support out there for my students.

* About Me: *

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brown in 2011, and in the top 10% of my class from a top private school in Northern NJ, where I took a combined AP / IB curriculum. I have been a professional academic and test prep tutor for the past decade, both privately and through a top test prep company, and I have worked with over 150 students. My specialties include GMAT, LSAT, GRE, ACT and SAT prep; math and English classes; undergraduate and graduate admissions consulting and application essay assistance.

* Results: *

I have worked with over 100 students, and have helped students to achieve perfect scores, to improve SAT scores by 300+ points, ACT scores by 8+ points, GMAT scores by 150+ points, LSAT scores by 20+ points, and grades from Cs and Ds to As. My students have been accepted to top colleges, and many have attended Ivy League universities.

* My Method: *

Points and grades aside, the reason I have stayed with students for years - and that I have seen the results that I have - is because I truly connect with the students I work with. You will get a better sense of my personality in person, but I am told time and time again that my students have never met a tutor like me before. I am able to connect and relate with my students, instill confidence in them, and teach them the skills to succeed.

Students know that they can reach out to me at any time via text or Facetime, and I have gone on to form lifelong friendships with many of my former students. I am often the first person my students text or Facetime when they receive their scores and admissions letters, and there's nothing I look forward to more than 4am texts with ACT scores attached!

* Location Info: *

I am able to travel to most areas in Manhattan and in neighborhoods in Brooklyn surrounding DUMBO. The majority of my students do a few in person sessions and then switch to online tutoring, and I offer a 10% discount for students who can meet in DUMBO or online. I have a two-hour minimum for in-person sessions and a one-hour minimum for online and DUMBO lessons.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

- Helped multiple students prepare for all sections of the ACT and saw major score improvements

Business

I have tutored and mentored many students in business. I started my first company, SmartSitting, as a sophomore at Brown. SmartSitting is now one of the top childcare agencies in NYC. I started my second company, Dating Ring, in 2013. Dating Ring was accepted into the prestigious accelerator, Y Combinator, and has been featured in many media outlets including the NYTimes, the Wall Street Journal, Time, Fox News, and Nightline. The company will be the focus of season 2 of the top podcast, StartUp, produced by This American Life's Alex Blumberg.

College Counseling

I have worked with many students on their college app essays, as well as going through the Fiske guide and choosing different colleges to apply to. One of my students even had his essay chosen as the first place winner in a scholarship competition. Many of my students have been accepted into Ivy League schools. My mother is an experienced college consultant and I have also worked with her with many students.

GRE

I have been a standardized test prep tutor for the past 10 years. I utilize my experience with all major tests to prepare the best material for the GRE. I have helped many students achieve their desired scores and get into their dream schools.

ISEE

I have been a standardized test prep tutor for the past 10 years. I utilize my experience with all major tests to prepare the best material for the ISEE. I have helped many students achieve their desired scores and get into the best private schools.

Study Skills

I've helped dozens of students with study skills - from creating weekly routines, to color-coded flashcards, to setting reasonable goals. So often, students lack the confidence they need to succeed. I build strong relationships with students, and am able to relate to them as a peer, and encourage them to get the work done (even if they feel they'll never need to know the material as adults).

Encouraging, knowledgeable and patient tutor!

I am so grateful to have found Lauren. She is an incredible tutor. She is organized, smart, encouraging and beyond helpful. I am a 26-year-old applying to college for the first time. Lauren has helped me prepare for the reading/writing portion of the SAT’s but also with my entire application. I was very intimated with the application process until I met Lauren.
