I have been a teacher with the NY City Department of Education for the past 23 years. For 14 years I taught math at the Middle School level. Prior to becoming a full time math teacher I was the Director of the Steelband Music Program at the school. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education. I am a board certified teacher with LAST and ATSW teaching certification and the recipient of numerous other certificates. I did graduate work at Teachers College Columbia University and graduated with a Masters of Arts in Curriculum and Teaching.
I can work with students from 6th to 12th grade level. I have successfully tutored students in math at the TASC/GED level. My approach in the classroom and tutoring is always to break down the problem into smaller part so that students can grasp the concepts and solve bigger problems.
My tutoring hours are usually flexible. I would request a 24 hour notice cancellation if a student cannot make the session. In return, I will do the same for student and parent. I have been known to to stay overtime if students are having difficulty understanding the material. However, I believe that students should be tutored for no more than an hour to an hour and a half. My goal is to have students gain confidence in themselves as problem solvers. Students and their parents can contact me anytime from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
I am also available to tutor students in World History.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am license by New York State to teach the K - 6 in math. Over the years, I have taught from sixth to tenth grade students. I am currently assisting two students with college level math. I am familiar with the math requirements for students and the skills required for each stage of their development.
