Many years ago, I was awarded a scholarship for my high school portfolio to the University of Cincinnati’s school of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP), where I later earned my B.F.A. in drawing. I then received a Master of Education from Xavier University, as well as an S.B.L license from the College of St. Rose. My educational background together with my experience as a visual arts teacher means that I offer plenty of results-oriented instructional time with an emphasis in drawing and painting skills differentiated to all skill levels.
Through my instruction, you can expect individualized coaching emphasizing audition strategies as well as the exploration of a variety of media. For each student, I create a personalized plan tailored to your talents and unique, artistic vision. This will allow you to track your progress and develop your ideas. By audition time, you will have an impressive, diverse portfolio ready to show prospective specialized arts middle and high schools.
If you have graduated high school and are looking for advice on your college portfolio, I offer a free half-hour consultation. I have experience tutoring at this level, as well as a track record of art colleges accepting my students. I can also help with photographing work for online submissions.
Since everyone's time is valuable, I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. However, I understand that sometimes there are unforeseeable circumstances. I will work these out with you on an individual basis.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I earned my B.F.A. from the University of Cincinnati with a concentration in drawing. I spent many hours learning anatomy and drawing the figure and still life. I understand drawing as the structure and foundation of all visual language, as well as drawing as a finished work of art. I have since spent many hours in the classroom teaching observation drawing and how to see, translating the physical, 3-D world into a drawing. As an artist and teacher, I work in a variety of media, including pencil, colored pencil, charcoal, pastel, conte crayon, ink, collage, and mixed media.
As an art major, I took many painting classes, including figurative painting in oils, and watercolor painting. I now teach beginning and advanced painting to my middle school students. I have tutored private students who had no initial painting experience go from beginning painters to advanced painters in as little as a couple of weeks. Using strong drawing skills as the foundation, I introduce painting techniques in both acrylics and watercolors. I help my students achieve their own personal vision through painting by teaching them the fundamentals of color theory and color mixing. I can mix any color to match any color, and I can help my students do the same. In my own work, I use mixed-media painting techniques, including ink, watercolor, and collage.
