About Christian

Hello prospective students!

I am an energetic, personal tutor who wants the best for my students. Guitar and History are my main subjects, however, I have extensive knowledge of music theory, songwriting, political science, and geography.

I have professional guitar experience (electric, acoustic, and bass) playing for different acts in Boston, Philadelphia, and New York. I have played guitar for over ten years and I have tutored private students in Pennsylvania for two years. My guitar spectrum includes jazz, rock, metal, funk, electronic, acoustic, and fingerpicking. I can read music and tablature and can teach either or both depending on one's preference. I will have a curriculum dependent on my student's skill level and style he/she wishes to learn, and I am dedicated to each individual's abilities and needs. My main resource that I use with students is "Totally Guitar: The Definitive Guide" by Tony Bacon and Dave Hunter. It is a great resource that has information on all styles of guitar music and all aspects of playing that I can tailor specifically to my student's interest. Lessons are either weekly or bi-weekly consisting of scale exercises, theory exercises (notes, intervals, tempo, and pitch), and of course playing styles that your student wants to learn. If it is a song he/she wants to learn, I will find the music or tablature and teach it to him/her.

I am also a historian with a degree in History from Boston University. My specialty is American History; however, I am well versed in world history, particularly European. I specialize in AP US and European History; however, I can be a general tutor for high school and middle school History and Social Studies classes. I have three years of tutoring American history to fellow students whilst in University. History is the process of change over time, and I help students see the general picture of what is happening. I apply themes, places, and individuals into a singular dialogue that one can see and understand in a clear, concise way. Turning history into a conversation makes the material more accessible for the student. Instead of it as a foreign, lost event, I turn it into something to which he/she can relate. I am particularly savvy at understanding someone's personality and making the material relatable. I understand that everyone has his/her own lacks and skills, so I exploit one's strengths while restricting one's weaknesses. I use both digital materials (slideshows, videos, and images) and books (Princeton review AP books specifically). We will use flash cards for memory enhancement if the student has to remember specific people and dates. We will use practice essay questions to refine the student's writing ability. If the student needs help with presentations, we will go over topics, talk about relevant and irrelevant information, and make practice slideshows and run through presentations to ensure maximum confidence for the student.

In order to ensure the student's success, I require feedback to make sure the student is on track and the parents are satisfied. I have a free consultation meeting to outline the student's needs and form a syllabus specific to him/her. I am flexible with time and I offer make up classes.

I travel to you.

My insatiable appetite for knowledge reflects in my personality and my dedication to each one of my students. Whether it be history, geography, politics, or music, I am focused on emitting this information in a most efficient and appropriate manner. My warmth and understanding allows the student to be his/herself without judgement, negativity, or fear. I wish only the best for my students and to do so in a positive, fulfilling manner.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping your student succeed!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
