SUNY Farmingdale (Graduate Coursework)
Hello, my name is Ariel and I would like to be your tutor!
A little about me: I am originally from California but I have lived in New York for the past ten years. I am a graduate of Dartmouth College (2005). I also have a MFA in painting from the New York Studio School (2009) and am currently enrolled in an Urban Horticulture & Design Associate's Degree program at SUNY Farmingdale - which means that I am learning to be a landscape designer and maintainer.
Some subjects I enjoy tutoring in are math, English, test prep, history, art, art history, science, basic Italian, reading and writing. My grandmother was a middle school science teacher so teaching and working with students runs in my blood! I also enjoy working with students of all ages and experiences.
Since I am attending school, my availability is weekends and evenings towards the end of the week.
Thank you for visiting my profile and have a great day!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am both self-taught and trained by Chef Mark H., who was Executive Chef at the Stowe Lodge and now runs the kitchen at the Vermont Studio Center artist residency in Johnson, VT. For a year, I learned from Mark how to plan, prep and cook meals once or twice a week for 50-70 people. We purchased our meat and vegetables from local farms. When I wasn't cooking, I supervised the work-study residents, showing how to cut, prep and clean for the meals.
I have been drawing and painting all my life and studied these subjects intensely in school. At Dartmouth College, I was a Studio Art Major and graduated with various awards. I completed my MFA in Drawing, Painting and Sculpture at the New York Studio School in 2009.
I graduated Dartmouth with high honors in studio art with a concentration in painting. In 2009, I completed my MFA in drawing, painting, and sculpture at the New York Studio School. I am proficient in watercolor, gouache, oil painting, acrylic, collage and mixed media. I also have experience in the classroom- after college I worked for a year as an intern/teaching assistant for the Dartmouth College studio art department. In this role, I counseled art students in a variety of subjects and led the class in the teachers absence. At graduate school, I also played a teaching role, assuming responsibility whenever I could by working as the head painting teacher's aid.
