Medgar Evers College (English and Professi)
Hello to all students and pursuers of knowledge,
My name is Pierre. I am a junior in college majoring in English and professional writing, a career path I consciously chose that allows me to pursue multiple, diverse fields connected to teaching, literature, communications, and media. I am also the managing editor and a contributing writer to the student paper on my campus, and I am also pursuing an internship with both a nonprofit organization working in grant writing and market research as well as work as a teacher's aide in a Brooklyn charter school for the developmentally challenged. Because of my expansive academic and career path, I have quite a bit of experience working in quite a few different fields, which is necessary and more and more required in the work field by potential employers in the 21st century.
I work with the Research Foundation of CUNY (RFCUNY) as a supplemental instructor which allows me work alongside professors within the classroom as a sort of teacher's assistant and aide. I also work outside of the classroom as a student teacher trained by the Research Foundation to aid in the learning process using intensive learning techniques designed around critical thinking and questioning.
My students have had significant improvement in their ability to draw their understanding from literature and their ability to communicate that understanding through writing. As a result, their grade performance also improves as well. I have worked with students just coming into college, high school students, and adult students as well. As a result, I am gifted with the ability to bridge the gap in understanding between people from different generations to contemporary knowledge.
It is very rewarding for me to be a tutor and student teacher as it allows me to give back to the community througn the gifts of knowledge that I have gained and increase the overall understanding a person has, not just of knowledge of whatever it is that they are studying, but of life in general. I appreciate the opportunity to work alongside those who are pursuing knowledge in their life and building their future career, and I look forward to working with each student.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
