I am as invested in teaching writing as I am in my own writing practice. Having graduated from the Master of Fine Arts program at Yale, I understand the benefits of higher education and how important test scores and personal essays are in the decision making process for college applications. I began tutoring when my graduate level colleagues at Yale started coming to me for help with their writing. After working with many people to write successful statements and essays for various programs and grants, I realized how much I love teaching writing and applied to the Non-Fiction Writing M.F.A. program at Columbia, where I am currently enrolled.
I specialize in tutoring creative and analytical writing and reading comprehension for success in school and on the SAT and GRE, as well as in guidance with personal essays and other writing-based materials required for academic applications. I strive to use our time together as efficiently as possible, focusing on each aspect of the subject at hand until you feel confident about moving on to the next level. I assign homework after every lesson and take detailed notes after our meetings so that I can provide you with periodic progress reports.
I hold myself to high standards and will never charge for a lesson if anyone is unsatisfied. I understand that the life of a student is busy and if something comes up that requires you to cancel our session I will offer to make up the class without any cancellation fee as long as you let me know eight hours ahead of time. I have a flexible schedule and can travel to almost anywhere you would like to meet within the five boroughs of New York City.
Feel free to contact me with any questions, to schedule a lesson or to set up a free consultation meeting so that you may be sure that we work well together before committing to the first session.
I wish you the best of luck with your studies and look forward to hearing from you! I am as invested in teaching writing as I am in my own writing practice. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
