Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Film

I have a film degree and have completed multiple short films and a handful of features. I frequently do both editing as well as audio production (post-production, voice-over, and occasionally foley work). I have helped students at the University of North Texas also work on projects as a tutor.

General Music

I have studied music theory for years and can teach part-writing, figured bass, and AP music theory qualifications. I have tutored students before in music theory and can help with homework at the university level.

Guitar

I currently work in music and interact with many of today's best session musicians (including guitar players). I am able to read music for guitar and took a few classes in classical guitar at the university level. After college, I taught entry-level lessons privately for about a year.

Music Production

I regularly work as an audio engineer at a large, historic, recording studio in Manhattan. I have a regular client base and I have produced a number of albums in multiple genres (from Jazz to Punk). I have instructed many of the company's interns on proper techniques and am very comfortable using Pro Tools as well as Logic Pro.

Music Theory

I have studied music theory for about 18 years and have entered numerous theory competitions. I am well-versed in figured bass and part-writing. I have studied privately and at the university level.

Philosophy

I am a Nietzsche and Heidegger scholar with sub-specialization in Schopenhauer studies. I am also interested in American pragmatism and phenomenology. I have spent two years reading and writing about the history of metaphysics and the death of God and have delivered lectures on introductory philosophical concepts.

Piano

I have studied piano since I was eight years old and have won many regional and state competitions in both Louisiana as well as Texas from the Louisiana Music Teachers Association and Texas Music Teachers Association (respectively). I have also taught entry level lessons in performance and music theory while attending college.

Proofreading

I have proofread papers for spelling, grammar, MLA, APA, and Chicago style formatting. I can also edit and work on Screenplay style writing in Final Draft or Celtx.

Video Production

I have a degree in RTVF (Radio, Television, and Film) and have completed several short film projects as well as some features. I am proficient in Final Cut 7, Final Cut Pro X, Pro Tools, and I have some experience with Avid Media Composer. I have taken specific courses in editing theories as well as sound for film.

Prepared and friendly!

Duff was very prepared for the initial interview/test run and impressed both my son and I. He really seemed to work well with Wes (who can be pretty picky) and had a plan well thought out not just for the initial lesson, but was already thinking ahead to how to best work with my son and help him build a solid foundation of skills and knowledge. Fantastic first meeting!
