About Max

My name is Max, I am a student at the University of Rochester majoring in Economics and Mathematics and minoring in Philosophy. I would have to say my favorite subjects to teach are mathematics and biology. I believe the reason I can be an effective tutor is because I understand that students learn in very different ways, for instance I best learn by speaking the material out loud so I can be frequently overheard lecturing to myself. It is because of this understanding that I work so hard to find out which learning method each particular student prefers to best be able to assist them in learning the material, not just memorizing facts. Learning creates an extremely important foundation for all knowledge to grow from, so it is far more important than just striving for higher test scores (those tend to follow when the student is truly learning). I have taken (and passed) AP courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Calculus BC, Government and Politics, U.S. History, World History, English Literature, English Language, and Statistics. Additionally, I have taken both the ACT and SAT, scores of which can be provided upon request. I have tutored in a variety of subjects across the board for students ranging from middle school through college level. Any other information will be happily presented upon request. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I consider math to be my best subject and feel very comfortable working with and teaching the ACT material. I personally scored a 36 on my ACT Math section and am confident I will be able to help your student achieve their maximum potential on the ACT Math section. I am happy to answer any questions upon request!

Public Speaking

I was captain of my high school debate team, debating on a local and national level, ran several social and political campaigns, and was president of a variety of clubs and extracurricular activities. All of the previously listed required extensive public speaking which I have developed and fine-tuned through years of practice and coaching. I am comfortable and happy to assist students to be more relaxed and efficient in their public speaking endeavors, as self-confidence in front of a group of people goes along in and out of the classroom.
