By applying the latest research in educational psychology, I teach my students the study habits they need to excel in any subject. I am always trying to improve my teaching methods and empower my students with the resilience, grit, and motivation necessary for a successful academic and professional career.

I scored in the 99th percentile on the SAT. A graduate of Stuyvesant High School and Vanderbilt University, I have over 10,000 hours of test prep experience (at age 10, I began preparing for the SHSAT and SAT exams).

Having received almost seven years of continuous of tutoring for these exams, I have significant experience on both sides of the table. I know which tutoring strategies work and which just create busywork.

Since I began tutoring five years ago, I've worked with students ranging from the elementary through high school level.

To maximize the effectiveness of my instruction and the individual attention I can provide, I limit myself to 7 students a week.

I have a patient and creative approach to tutoring. I help students identify their weaknesses and work to help them improve their knowledge and skills. I try to make each lesson dynamic, engaging, and enjoyable. I am committed to helping my students improve, and am always easy to reach by phone or by email with any questions that pop up in between lessons.

Frequently asked questions:

Q: Why should I get test prep tutoring?
A: Effective test preparation can result in a huge payoff: the most selective universities also award the largest financial aid packages (with need-based scholarships totaling over $220,000 over a period of 4 years!). However, admittance requires near perfect scores on standardized tests along with a high GPA, a record of leadership/extracurricular activities, positive teacher recommendations, and an excellent college application essay.

Q: Where do meet with your students?
A: Usually, in-home or in a public location (e.g. public library, cafes). I'm also certified by Wyzant for online tutoring.

ISEE,

ISEE

I have extensive tutoring experience with the types of questions on the ISEE: synonyms and sentence completions (Verbal Reasoning), main idea, supporting ideas, inference, vocabulary, organization/logic, and tone/style/figurative language in a reading passage (Reading Comprehension), word problems and quantitative comparisons (Quantitative Reasoning), and math ranging from simple addition and subtraction (Lower Level) to second-year algebra (Upper Level). The Writing section is usually an essay prompt which asks students to describe a/an: person / animal, place, object, experience / event, idea, or ambition. To practice for this section, I engage students in an "essay writing bootcamp." Furthermore, all of these question types are similar to the ones that I studied in preparation for the SHSAT, old SAT, and new SAT.

I have extensive tutoring experience with the types of questions on the SSAT. The Verbal section of the SSAT is composed of two kinds of questions: synonyms and analogies. The Quantitative (math) section on the Upper Level SSAT includes problems involving arithmetic, elementary algebra, geometry, and other concepts. The Reading Comprehension section on the Upper Level SSAT tests a student's understanding of the Main Idea, Supporting Ideas, Inference, Vocabulary, Organization/Logic, and Tone/Style/Figurative Language in a reading passage. The Writing section gives an aphorism, asking students if they agree or disagree and to support their opinion with examples. I've tutored and have received tutoring for each of these questions during my preparation for the SHSAT, old SAT, and new SAT.

Extraordinary SHSAT tutor

Kenny was an amazing tutor who was very well organized and professional He began working with our daughter 7 weeks before the SHSATs. On his first day, my daughter took an assessment test which would help guide Kenny's lessons and give us an idea of her weaknesses. He worked primarily on improving her weaknesses in addition to continuing to teach the rest of the material on the SHSAT. My daughter had weekly homework and completed a number of practice tests. The result- a very high score in the 600's. We could not have done it without Kenny and I would highly recommend him.

Excellent tutor with great teaching skills

Kenny has been tutoring my 8th Grader for the past 4 months. He has seen my child 1-2 sessions per week for 60-90 minutes. I highly recommend Kenny due to his knowledge of Math, the SHSAT, test taking skills and study skills. He has also facilitated my child in the start of projects, getting my child on the right track. Kenny is flexible, when necessary and always fair when it comes to billing. I highly recommend Kenny to tutor any child that is struggling or needs enrichment.

The best SAT tutor I've ever had!

Under Kenny’s tutelage I scored a 2320 on the SAT (800 M, 800 R, 720 W). Thank you, Kenny! You pushed me to work so hard but now I’m glad you did. It’s evident that you have a passion for teaching and want your students to excel. You tailored the lessons to fit my needs and you made the material so easy to understand with great examples. You not only helped me get an awesome SAT score but also gave me great study tips I will continue to use through college. I highly recommend Kenny, he’s not only talented and knowledgeable but truly cares about his students.

Informative and patient

As of now I have only met with Kenny one time for a one hour session in math tutoring. But in that time, Kenny displayed patience, thoroughness in his explanations, and readiness when he arrived. I will be meeting with Kenny again in hopes that he can be the tutor for me to prepare me in the next 5 weeks for the GED exam.

Knowledgeable & Accommodating

We hired Kenny a month ago to help our 18 year old son prepare for the math section of the SAT, which he was going to take for the 2nd time. Although our son has a head on his shoulders, he needed help in reviewing math skills he already learned, and learning and mastering some of the math he never knew well to begin with. In a little over 10 sessions, Kenny managed to raise our son's math score from a puny 360 (!) to a score of over 600 on a practice test (our son just took the "real" SAT only 4 days ago, so we're still awaiting the results). We now hired Kenny to help our 20 year old daughter prepare for some pre-calculus college exams. We also plan on hiring Kenny to help our 16 year old daughter prepare for math Regents exams. Kenny also is very accommodating in making sure his schedule meshes with our children's schedule. He also takes the time to explain to us, in person & online, what has been accomplished and what still needs to be done. We have complete confidence in Kenny's skills & knowledge and in his ability to transmit those skills and knowledge to our children. Thank you, Kenny!

Kenny has been very helpful throughout my process of getting reacquainted with my math. He has been very punctual, organised, and friendly throughout his duration. I recommend Kenny to anybody else that feels they need some help from the basic to the complicated. I am grateful for his help and patience.
