I'm an international print, broadcast and online journalist with more than a decade experience. I've also managed social media, and worked in advertising and public relations. I've lived in four different countries, and as a journalist I've reported from throughout the Eastern and Southern Caribbean, here in North America, and the Middle East. I've covered almost every beat in the newsroom ranging from breaking news to sports, to health, business, entertainment, to feature writing, religion and other enterprise pieces. My newsroom background has helped me to master skills in multi-tasking, paying attention to detail, working on and meeting deadlines, and going beyond the call of duty. I'm fully proficient in the areas of writing (speeches, academic papers, creative writing etc), blogging, social media management and strategy, CMS, digital audio editing in Final Cut Pro, DAVID and Burli, digital photography, videography, Adobe Photoshop, WordPress, Drupal, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
My unique background enables me to easily establish rapport and effectively communicate with people from all walks of life. Students will especially enjoy working with me because of my gregarious nature,"cool under fire" demeanor, commitment to the task at hand, professionalism, and proven track record of getting the job done. I am patient. I allow my student to tell me their vision, areas of insecurities and together we develop strategies and implement tactics to not just complete a particular assignment, but to help improve the student's approach, work, confidence, and discipline moving forward. I often use my own personal journey of attaining an Ivy League master's degree to inspire my students. I'm an international print, broadcast and online journalist with more than a decade experience. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I'm adept at cooking Caribbean cuisine. I've been cooking and baking things Caribbean all my life, having grown up in that region and with a mom who baked and sold products throughout our neighborhood. In the past I've recorded and posted photos and vlogs of my cooking. I mainly feature fish/seafood, chicken and pastries.
I'm an articulate, poised, well-researched, and energetic public speaker. Throughout undergrad I won speech/public speaking competitions and for the capstone of my major, I lead my communications team to win a Capital One pitch as the main speaker/pitch person. As a journalist, I've had extensive experience communicating with the masses, particularly during my years as a radio and television broadcast reporter.
I've extensively covered religion as a beat as a journalist. Religion was one of my areas of specialization while doing my master's degree under the guidance of former New York Times religion journalist and best selling author Ari Goldman. My work in the field took me with Goldman and some fellow journalists to Israel and the West Bank - the birth place of and site of several holy places of various faiths. While in Israel, I reported on different aspects of religion, visited the holy sites of faiths such as Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Druze, and Baha'i, and met with and interviewed many of their leaders. While I specialize in Christianity, I'm also versed on other faiths.
