About Nick

I love to teach piano!

I've taught people of all ages and musical backgrounds, privately and in groups, and I find it fun and rewarding.

For me, making great music is about self-discovery. It's only natural to want to share your own musical discoveries with others. The foundation of my lessons is fun. The only way to truly learn and improve at something is through positive association. I believe in encouraging students. I believe in patience, flexibility, and understanding. I think only then can one truly relax into great music.

For children, I like to teach what I learned, as it has helped shape me into the working musician I am today. The Bastien Piano Book series is my choice for many of my students. We'll cover a lot more than just how to hit notes on a piano, too. Theory, composition, and even music history are all critical in becoming a good musician. Adults with some musical background often like to begin work on a piece of piano literature, but it's also common to start at the beginning with them, too.

I look forward to working with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Music Production

I have studied MIDI and studio recording techniques for nearly 15 years. I hold a degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro which included rigorous instruction on studio techniques. I now work as a film composer in which I score and engineer recordings.

Piano

I am qualified to teach piano, as I have played and studied classical piano for over 17 years. I earned my degree in Music Composition at the University of North Carolina Greensboro in May 2010, with piano as my principal instrument. I have taught lessons privately for nearly 10 years, and am currently employed by music academies in New York City.

Video Production

I've studied and produced videos for over a decade. Some of my productions have been internationally recognized, and I've won scholarships and some awards for my video work, including the R. Walker Geitner scholarship. I am fully proficient in Final Cut Pro, Final Cut X, Adobe Premiere, Encore, Photoshop, and many other professional applications.
