About Isadora

I am currently working as a Middle School Reading Interventionist (Literacy Coach) for Unity Preparatory Charter School of Brooklyn. My previous teaching experience includes a two-year National AmeriCorps Citizen Schools Teaching Fellowship at a neighborhood middle school as a 7th Grade Math Associate Teacher and an 8th Grade ELA Associate Teacher.

I am very passionate about education and strive to instill confidence and skills in all of the students I work with. I plan on pursuing my Master's Degree in Secondary English Education for grades 7-12 in the Spring of 2017. I strongly believe in incorporating elements of play and discovery in my learning with younger students. For older students, pushing their critical thinking skills and problem solving skills beyond the task at hand is key in ensuring that they not only raise their grades in the present but in the future as well.

I have previously worked with high school and college students as a College Access and College Success Program Manager. In these roles, I have worked with high school students in preparation for college-SAT/ACT Test Prep, Portfolio Prep, and Supplementary Application/Scholarship Application assistance. I have tutored college students for intro level humanities courses and the tips for mastering the liberal arts college curriculum.

I really enjoy spending my time out of the classroom in informal settings working with learners of all ages.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

College Counseling

I started a First Generation to College mentoring program at my liberal arts institution. i developed the program and oversaw its implementation for two years.

I have also served as a volunteer college coach in two SAT Prep/College Counseling programs.

Social Studies

During my undergraduate studies, I majored in Sociology and minored in disciplines that overlapped with Sociology-African American Studies and Jewish Studies. This gives me a nuanced understanding of the issues sociology tackles--race,religion, culture, gender, sexuality, education, prison industry and countless other social issues. I tutored within the department for two years. I also assisted the Chair of The Department for two years in conducting her research and other department related tasks. I conducted multiple year-long research projects-domestically and abroad under the discipline, thus I have a grasp of the research methods, the theories-traditional, contemporary, modern, post-modern and more.

Very patient and great teacher!

Isadora has been great with our daughter. She has helped our daughter a lot in improving in her math and writing. We like the fact that she is very calm because that helps our daughter in trusting her and she really enjoys learning with her. We highly recommend her.
