About Claudy

As a current student in my final year of engineering at The City College of New York, I understand what it means to be lost in an academic subject and to be in dire need of help from someone who can easily explain concepts in a concise, but thorough manner. I have been tutored and I have worked as a tutor in my school. I understand when a student might be sitting in class and is completely lost; the teacher has her/his limits on how much time s/he can go over the same material, but as a tutor, I am willing to go the extra mile to make sure my students understand all the key concepts needed for them to understand and succeed in their courses. When a student does not understand with one approach I use, I try to show them the concept through a different approach.

I have worked in a program in my school, The City College of New York, as a tutor for approximately two years. The subjects I had tutored were college level General Physics 1 & 2, Calculus 1 & 2, Precalculus, Algebra, and General Chemistry 1 & 2. I am currently working in the school as a student advisor. So throughout the past four years, I have constantly been tutoring, mentoring, and advising students. I am the choir director in my church as well as one of the band leaders; I am able to tutor in introductory music theory as well as beginning saxophone lessons. After each lesson, I would assign the student a homework for them to work on so that when I meet with them the next session, I can assess if they are truly understanding the material.

After each session, I would like to receive feedback from the student regarding how the lessons have been going. I also expect the student to be ready for each tutoring session with his study material and a notebook s/he can use to take notes. I am able to reserve space in my school for the tutoring sessions, but I can travel to any location if that is more convenient for the student.

I am flexible with scheduling and I am attached to my phone. So if a change to a scheduled appointment needs to be made, four-hour prior notice is suffice. I hope to hear from you soon!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Saxophone

I have been playing the alto saxophone for 11 years. I started out playing the alto saxophone in my church then continued playing it throughout hight in Concert Band and Jazz Band. After high school, I have performed in multiple open mic events during college and continued playing for my church. I am one of the band conductors at my church and also know how to play the clarinet and I am learning how to play the piano and am currently the choir director at my church. Besides knowing how to play the saxophone, I know a good amount of music theory and can read written music well.
