My love of teaching comes from a love of learning, and it's continuously driven by igniting that "spark" in my students. As valedictorian of my high school class, and straight-A graduate student, I know the achievements that can be reached through hard work and dedication to a goal. As a New York City public school teacher, I've witnessed hundreds of students achieve their potential and build confidence in themselves as their grades, test scores, and abilities improve.
I specialize in tutoring reading, math, and writing skills to achieve success in the school setting. My goal for each tutoring session is to support the student's learning by meeting each student where they currently are to achieve progress at an appropriate pace for your child. It is my intention that your child be challenged enough to grow, without feeling anxious or overwhelmed.
Because I hold high expectations for students, as well as myself, I offer periodic progress reports and session summaries, and I welcome your feedback.
I am happy to travel to a convenient location for your child (your home or local public library). Please note that I have a 24-hour cancellation policy.
I look forward to hearing from you and working with your child to achieve the success your child has the potential to achieve! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a Master's degree in Childhood Education (Grades 1-6) from Pace University. As an experienced 2nd-grade teacher, I am well-versed in the skills and strategies necessary for mastering concepts pertinent for success in elementary school. I have worked with students with a wide range of abilities, and I have a breadth knowledge of strategies and resources that can be helpful in solidifying foundational skills and building on these skills to reach a student's full potential.
As a certified elementary school teacher, I have worked with students to learn as well as improve their handwriting skills. I have also tutored young PreK students in the proper method to write letters, words, and sentences. I have experience using Wilson's Fundations program as well as the Superkids Curriculum for teaching proper handwriting alongside phonics and reading instruction.
As an experienced 2nd-grade teacher, I have encountered bright students who struggle due to a lack of organizational skills and inconsistent work habits. Using visual aids, rhythmic phrases, explicit directions/routines, and emphasizing consistency, my students have made gains in maintaining organization and utilizing procedures to produce strong habits of work and mind.
