I am able to share my culture by teaching the Chinese language. I learned English as a second language and hold a master's degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) thus I have personal insight into the struggles second language learners may encounter. I have been tutoring students of all ages in Mandarin Chinese in the United States for more than five years. I also teach Mandarin part time at an independent high school located in the Upper East Side. The more that I teach, the more that I feel teaching Mandarin is both professionally and personally rewarding.
I was born and raised in the northern part of China so I speak standard Mandarin without an accent since standard Mandarin is based on Beijing pronunciation and Northern dialect, according to the Standardized Modern Chinese Association. Based on my personal experience, we will be appreciated more by native speakers if we speak their language with good pronunciation and less accent. Therefore, I always emphasize the importance of pronunciation and intonation, and have spent a great deal of time on that during the teaching process. My goal in teaching is to always make sure that students can communicate with others in Mandarin clearly and coherently. The key of learning a language is COMMUNICATION.
I have used different methods to teach students in different age groups, from 8 to 80 years old. Currently, I am working on my second master's degree in Instructional/Educational Technology and I have integrate new technology into my lesson little by little. This have helped me to keep my students motivated and more engaging during each lesson. I have always help students to improve their language proficiency based on their needs. Therefore, I look forward to hear from you and help you achieve success in your studies.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Since the end of 2012, I became a part-time ESL instructor in Ivy prep, Brooklyn Chinese school. Meanwhile, I have been volunteering at New York Cares organization regularly to help elementary students prepare their ELA exams. I have developed many test-taking strategies to help students improve their test score in a fast and effective ways.
