About Stephen

I'm well educated and have a great deal of personal business experience. I've taken lots of qualifying exams: Regents, college entrance, grad school, business school, insurance, series 6 and series 7 (stock brokerage). Generally speaking, I can teach anything that I can understand, and teach it well. Nicely, but effectively.

I find that as a creative business man, I was always designing better ways to do things, new procedures, new concepts. The best trainer for these ideas was me. So did a lot of training. Years and years of it. I also learned that if I wanted to move on to a new assignment, I had to leave someone behind on the team I had trained, to train newcomers. The technical term for that is TTT (or T3) for Train the Trainer. I do that, too.

I presently take assignments from The Training Associates, in Westborough, MA. I've trained more than 300 students this year, and have loved it.

Here is something they wrote about me to their clients this April:

"Steve is one of our top trainers. He is experienced in Training design and implementation. He has received stellar evaluations from several hundred students over 50+ training classes. We find that he is a quick learner, has a good business head and is an addition to our business as well as good for his students. In our VOIP Telecom area, he has set the standards for best practices, and is active in mentoring our new trainers. One of our major clients has asked us to send them more trainers "just like Steve". He has 30+ years of facilitating, instructional design, and training. We assess him as a talent in all phases of the training and consulting processes. His prior work history includes developing processes, developing training modules about the processes, training off the modules, training trainers to train from the modules, and implementing whole systems from top to bottom that leave the host organization fully self-sustaining. He is expert in understanding and mapping business processes and/or processes that will bring an organization towards its goals, in multiple industries with all levels of personnel. He has a zest for the work and appears to be tireless."

I look forward to helping you reach your goals. I'm sure we'll do well together.

Good luck,

Steve

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I'm a Mechanical Engineer and an MBA in advanced math (Statistics and Operations Research) and work with folks of all ages as a trainer in computers and computer based telephone systems.

I've also worked with 10 & 11 year olds teaching history as my "give back" to a favorite school.

General Computer

I'm a Mechanical Engineer and an MBA in advanced math (Statistics and Operations Research) and work with folks of all ages as a trainer in computers and computer based telephone systems.

I've also worked with 10 & 11 year olds teaching history as my "give back" to a favorite school.

GRE

While I took my GRE's a long time ago, they did help a lackluster engineer (me) get into graduate school, earn a fellowship, and pursue a successful career in engineering and a career in business.

I'm currently a senior professional trainer for The Training Associates and especially enjoy helping students develop their skills.

Macintosh

I've been using Macs for the last 15 years and was an early editor for the Boston Users's Group (Mac)
I'm a QB Consultant and use the Mac as my base.

I use the Mac suite of software as well as Microsoft Office for Mac, and also use my little laptop with a 24" side monitor to run parallels, and use IBM software as well.

I am a certified instructor with The Training Associates and in the last year, I've been to 65 sites and taught over 300 students in over 1,200 face-to-face classes.

Mechanical Engineering

Graduated from NYU School of Engineering in June 1971 with a BME (Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering.

I worked for 2 years for Combustion Engineering in Windsor, Ct on construction sites for Coal/Oil fired steam generating systems.

I worked for 2 years at Bendix Engineering in Teterboro, NJ in the Instrumentation Lab. I helped select the materials included in the altimeter for the Army's C-5A heavy lift aircraft.

Following that, I spent 10 years as a senior project engineer for the Department of the Army, Weapons Fuzing Lab at Picatinny Arsenal, Dover, NJ, where I was a hands on manager of the US Army FAE Weapons system which was tested in the Vietnam War.

I am a trainer/consultant with The Training Associates, Westborough, MA.

I am an engineer at heart, and my gift is to learn how things work and am blessed with the ability to share that knowledge with my students and clients.

Prealgebra

I'm a business professional working with all kinds of people, both young and old.
I've been working part time for the last 7 years for a training company.
I'm a lead trainer, which means I train other trainer in projects they know very little about.

My specialties are computers, telecommunications systems, and behind it all is ... math.

I'm sent all over the country and my job is: to teach folks who are afraid of their new, whiz-bang, computerized phone systems how to grasp the basic concepts that they already know and apply them to their new phone systems.
I've been very successful with this work and I find it very satisfying.
So how does that make me qualified to teach a young person who is having trouble with basic concepts?
I developed the basic concepts for working with middle school children teaching history as a volunteer in religious school. They're a special group, middle school kids. Eager to please, afraid to fail. But they're sweet and I love helping them.

If your child likes me and I believe I can help, I'll do so.
If the fit is not there, I promise, I won't waste your money and your child's time.

QuickBooks

I've been using QuickBooks for the last 15 years and have been a beta-tester for them for 7 years. Intuit has awarded me "Certified QB Consultant".

I was first certified by Intuit on Quickbooks Premier Accountant on 8/17/2011. and over the years, I've been certified for the PC version and the Mac version. I have additional certifications in QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Enterprise Versions, and QB Point of Purchase versions.

I am a certified instructor with The Training Associates in both QuickBooks and VOIP Telecommunications. In the last 3 years, I've been to 300 client sites and taught over 3000 students in over 6000 face-to-face classes. I also was a "Train the Trainer" in the telecommunications area.

Series 63

I have been a licensed full-service stockbroker since 1990 and have passed the series 6, series 7, and series 63 exams. In my work as a broker I built an agency in Cedarhurst, NY and recruited, managed and coached numerous young brokers to pass these exams as well as to fulfill the high ethical standards required for performance of their duties as a broker.
